Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty Preview

The Dallas Wings will be heading to New York to face the Liberty on Thursday night. It could be a blowout game due to the different talents of these teams.

The Dallas Wings are currently tenth in the league and fifth in their conference. It's been a tough road for them this season, as their record sits at 6-21. The Wings faced the Liberty the other night and lost 74-94. Satou Sabally had a good game with 24 points. Arike Ogunbowale also had 17 points and six rebounds. Natasha Howard did decently well with 13 points and nine rebounds.

New York currently sits in first place in both their conference and the league, with a record of 24-4, placing them at the other end of the spectrum here. Breanna Stewart led in scoring against the Wings with 26 points. She also had 12 rebounds to get herself a double-double. Jonquel Jones followed behind her with 23 points and 12 rebounds for her own double-double. Lastly, Courtney Vandersloot also had a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists.

Is this going to be a big win for New York or a shocking one for Dallas?

Dallas Wings Team Review

Arike Ogunbowale has been leading the Wings in scoring (22.0), assists (5.1), and steals (2.6) per game. However, she struggled a bit against the Liberty in her last game. Satou Sabally is tied with Ogunbowale in the scoring column with 22.0 as well. Teaira McCowen is the leader in rebounds with 7.2 per game. She's also leading in blocks with 1.0 per game.

Dallas has had a difficult time finding its footing this season. In 2023, they finished fourth in the league and second in their conference. They've dropped off heavily since then. They have a decent group, and the players perform well offensively. However, they are in last place in defensive rating, allowing 110.1 points from their opposition.

New York Liberty Team Review

The lead scorer for the Liberty is Sabrina Ionescu, with 19.9 points per game. Ionescu leads in assists as well, with 6.0 per game. However, she will be a game time decision tomorrow night. Right behind her is Breanna Stewart, with 19.8 points per game. She also leads in steals, 1.9, and blocks, 1.4 per game. Lastly, Jonquel Jones is the leader in the rebounding column with 9.3 per game.

New York has been on a hot streak, winning nine of their last 10 games. They are currently on a seven-game winning streak, making them a massive threat to the rest of the league. Even with Ionescu out, Stewart and Jones have been continuing to keep their team on top.

Who to Watch

Dallas Wings

Satou Sabally is one to watch in this upcoming game. If she does well and is better than Ogunbowale, she could take over as the lead scorer for the Wings. She was the highlight of the last game against New York and could do it again. In reality, both Sabally and Ogunbowale need to be on top of things if Dallas wants to win against the No. 1 team.

New York Liberty

Jonquel Jones has had some major games in the last few weeks. She's had some big 20-point games and even had a 34-point night in June. Jones was the team leader in the last game against Dallas. If Ionescu doesn't play, Jones could help anchor the team tomorrow night. Jones is alsp a rebounding machine, with her high being 17 this season.
